Rangiora’s first sushi shop, Sushi Ya, is now the first, and only, sushi takeaway bar in Rangiora to also have a sushi train restaurant, Secret, in which a revolving track of tempting culinary delights passes by diners’ tables.
When Sushi Ya Rangiora opened in 2004, it was at a time when most people didn’t even know what sushi was. Sushi Ya Rangiora blazed a trail in the gastronomic experience of North Canterbury locals and despite some challenges, didn’t look back, even after earthquakes closed the premises and Sushi Ya operated from a food trailer for two years.
But loyal locals kept coming back for the quality sushi they were accustomed to and now, after a prolonged wait, Sushi Ya Rangiora has moved into its new premises in the historic Junction Hotel, now Lam House. Set to become part of Rangiora’s history, Sushi Ya is here to stay, in different premises but with the same quality sushi their customers love.
